The highlight of our spring break trip (at least for me) was our visit to Keukenhof.  Keukenhof, located near the town of Lisse, is the world’s largest flower garden, with 7 million flower bulbs planted, by hand.  This year was the 60th anniversary of Keukenhof, and the theme this year focused on the historical relationship between The Netherlands and the United States (particularly New York).  Read the rest of this entry »

We spent day 3 of spring break exploring Amsterdam.  We’d checked into our hotel the night before.  Not as great a view as we’d had in Trier, but the room was quite nice.  The evening prior, we’d walked toward the city center to find dinner, so we knew we were only about a 10 minute walk from Central Station, where we could catch a tram close to anywhere in the city center. Salzburg.  The birthplace of Mozart and Mozart balls.  Where The Sound of Music was filmed (but only Americans know anything about it, or like it).  Where edelweiss is a picture on the T-shirts they sell American tourists.  And there are no kangaroos in Austria.  Read the rest of this entry »

Mom came!  Since Mom came to visit at Christmas, we wanted to go see some interesting things.  Mom had never seen Prague (since you couldn’t get there when we lived in Germany before) and we knew we wanted to go back, so we decided Prague was one of the places we’d see. For the past several years, we’d been fortunate enough to be close (well, close enough, a day or so driving) to Little Rock to go over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house for Thanksgiving.  This year, with a big ocean in the way, we had to find an alternate location.  Read the rest of this entry »
